Just look at my handsome boy! This sweater is one Brian picked out of an old Knit It! magazine over two years ago. Back then, not knowing about yarn substitution, I obediently went online and ordered Lion Brand Wood-Ease Chunky as requested in the pattern. Yarn and pattern then got put away for more than a year, until the fall when I pulled it all out again for Brian's fall sweater. Sadly, I had it almost finished when I became too sick to knit, but now that I'm better, it was something I wanted to finish up right away. I went on a button mission this morning, and just sat with a very attentive little boy while I sewed them on. No blocking for this guy!
Particulars:
Pattern: Boy's Car Sweater, Knit It! 2006
Yarn: Wool-Ease Chunky, 3 skeins of Bluebell and 1 skein of Pumpkin
Needles: 6mm and 6.5mm
Notes: I made no modifications to this pattern, just knit as written for a size 6. If I were to do it again, I think I would make it a tad longer, as the length doesn't seem to match the roominess of the rest of the sweater. Although it wasn't thrilling working with this yarn, it is nice to have such a hardy yarn for such a busy recipient.
WOWzers! what a handsome boy! The sweater looks awesome and he looks happy wearing it- good work Mom!

What a cute sweater. I too need to knit items longer for my daughter too, as being taller for her age things seem to look shorter (and a plus she can wear them for longer).

Glad to see you are back and knitting like mad again. Being sick sucks especially when it lasts so long.
Congratulations on a little boy in the oven! That's awesome.
Very cute sweater on a cute little guy.

That is soooo cute! Any chance I could get a copy of the pattern? I'd love to make one for Sean. I don't know where I could get my hands on that magazine. Can you email me to discuss further? :)

By the look on his face, he loves his sweater. It's awfully cute.
I used to think you had to have the exact yarn for the pattern too. Funny isn't it, to look back on things like that.

Wow! It looks great! (My 6-yr-old son saw the picture of your son, wanted to know who it was, then asked, "Are you going to knit me one of those?")
A good friend of mine - who taught me to knit - is the mother of 6 sons, and she gave me a tip that I've used with all sweaters I've knitted for children: knit the body and the sleeves 2 inches longer than the pattern calls for. You can always cuff the sleeves for a while, and long sweaters will fit the child for a couple of years as he/she grows. My 2 1/2 yr-old-granddaughter can still wear the sweater I knitted her when she was 1, and my 10-yr-old daughter can still wear the sweaters I knitted for her when she was 7.
Children grow longer before they grow rounder!
