Today is my handsome husband's birthday! On Monday, we celebrated by visiting Barkerville, an historic, old west town, full of actors in costume. This has somehow become an annual tradition, with certain very key elements:
We walk main street,
take a stagecoach ride,
do some shopping for certain items, such as giant jawbreakers, ice cream, and bakery-fresh sourdough bread,
check out the Cornish Wheel and Pump, and hear the mining demonstration,
and pan for gold. There was some fibre to be seen,
such as antique bobbins,
and hand knit wool scarves. Once everyone is worn out, we head for home,
stopping at a nearby lake for a picnic.
There are wildflowers to be picked,
special rocks to be discovered,
and lots of room to run (my goodness, the boy is like Dash from The Incredibles. He just never stops moving!). Lots of fun was had by all,
except for Liam. This was pretty much his take on the whole day. Maybe he'll enjoy it more next year!
Happy birthday to the hubs! Looks like a fun day for all -- except for baby. :)

Love the photos. I lived in Wells for about a decade and you had lunch at my favourite picnic table! Makes me homesick, I've been livng in Quesnel for the last seven years and I miss living in Wells so much.

Happy Birthday, Stuart!!! May you have many many more!
What a fun tradition! Looks like a fantastic place to spend a good chunk of day but oh yes, the picnic and wildflowers, the rocks (!!:^)!! and running! I love your children :^)
Liam... dearest little man, I'm sorry, your expression brought out an 'awwww' followed quickly with snorts and giggles, next year, sweetest, you'll have lots more fun, promise :^)
I'd love to spend a few days at that lake, looks so refreshing.

Wow! It looks like you had a great day! My youngest never enjoyed adventures much either. These days he's more likely to make me cry. ;)

Liam's face reminded me of the first time we took Andy to Disneyland. Yes, it got better on a subsequent visit.
That sounds like a really fun way to spend a day. Happy birthday to your "handsome husband".

Happy Belated Birthday, Stuart!
Sounds like a wonderful annual tradition. Perhaps Liam is just mad that he couldn't have a jaw breaker :-)

Hey, firstly your DH's birthday is the day before mine, and two days before MY DH's! How's that? And secondly, Barkerville is one of my favourite places - only went there once, but am always promising myself to return.
Lovely pictures. Really got the spirit of the trip.
Hugs to you and yours
