~ Joining in with Ginny at Small Things, who loves to read & loves to knit~
I am trying to be very disciplined and only work on Christmas presents until they're done - I don't want to be frantically clutching my needles on Christmas Eve, desperately finishing one last thing...
After finishing the first sleeve of this sweater, I decided I was unhappy with the short rows I had worked, and not thrilled with the fullness of the sleeve itself. I ripped it all back, and am reworking, with one less set of short rows in each repeat. I also read up on the technique over at TECHknitting, and am much happier about it this time around. Hopefully it will continue to move along quickly... there are more gifts to make!
The book I'm reading is The Winter of our Disconnect - the story of a mom & her three kids, who completely unplugged for 6 months. I'm just getting into it, but am fascinated by the idea, and the process the family is going through as they adjust to no power. Can you imagine - no power at all? I can't even get the family to agree to no cable TV!
Oh, this book is going on my wish list - thank you for sharing. We lived with six children with no electricity for over two years so it would be wonderful to read about another family's adventures.

Good for you ripping back and making it right. Sometimes that's so hard when pressed to forge on ahead.
Thanks for mentioning the book. I'd heard about it when it first came out then forgot about it. Do they live totally with electricity of any sort? Having lived 4 years without radio/tv/phone I love the sound of silence, we heated with wood and cooked on a propane stove but I admit to shuddering at the thought of washing clothes by hand.

Glad you're making good progress on those great gift plans - I'm not doing too badly with mine either - planning very few knits this year which helps!

I disconnected for six months and I went from being a reader to a TV addict. Well, I was disconnected from all electricity. It's not that much fun to heat bath water every day! (we did have a propane tank though.)
I'll have to check out the Techknitter's short rows, I just learned the German Short row method and it was fabulous.
The pictures of your kids around that tree are fabulous!
